If you are eager to find out whether you are dealing with a pregnant cat, you can confirm the pregnancy further by checking the nipples for pinking. Between four to five weeks from conception, you should be able to feel the kittens, but be extremely gentle because you may harm them. I recommend you ask a professional to feel around for the kittens. You can also leave your cat alone for two months until the kittens are born. Then, get your cameras ready to get tons of adorable kitten pictures!

Pregnant cats do not really need extra care. They prefer to be left alone without much fuss.

Kittens and Catnip: Kittens younger than 10 months old usually have no reaction and display no noticeable catnip effects.

If you want to grow catnip:

The catnip herb is easy to plant. Beware though, since it belongs in the mint family, it can be weed-like and take over your yard. I prefer to grow my catnip plant in a pot, starting out with catnip seeds. It’s cheaper and safer for my cats. The store-bought catnip may be grown using insecticides. Growing catnip is easy even for those who are amateur gardeners.

There is a vast variety of catnip toys to choose from. My cats love a good catnip toy. One of their favorites is the catnip cigar:

If you haven’t tried experimenting with catnip yet, I urge you to give it a shot. Your cat will most likely be grateful. Keep your video camera nearby. Catnip effects can be hilarious.

As you can see for the catnip pictures you just saw, the above three cats loved it. The catnip effects lasted at least ten minutes each time I introduced their catnip toy, or exposed them to the actual outdoors catnip herb plant.

This blog celebrates cats every day. Our rescue cats are honored and cared for accordingly. There will be no extra festivities to honor them on National Cat Day, because opening our home to them and making sure all their needs and wants are met is sufficient. What I would like people to focus on this National Cat Day and every day of the year is cat rescue! I may be “crazy” but my main focus for the past several years has been pet adoption of all species, including cats.

If you like cats and have some room for “just one more”, just do it. Let’s help clean out the shelters, and I mean through the front door!

Happy National Cat Day to all the cats in the world. May there be a day when the shelters are empty… Adopt a pet, save a life!

Do not worry much about limiting your pregnant cat’s activities, as she will innately become more careful herself, searching for her nesting site.

As she gets bigger and the pregnancy progresses, the pregnant cat will undergo an increased level of progesterone, nature’s way of preparing her for the delivery, that brings with it relaxation.

Your cat will start sitting in a prone position as she gets bigger. As she stretches out on her side, she distributes her “load” more evenly, allowing the floor to help her with the stress of carrying all the weight.

Sitting up, the pregnant cat will keep switching positions as she can not get comfortable. Her large tummy will make her look pear-shaped, and the pinking will become more visible as she nears her due date.

To sum up, the pregnant cat does not really need any special care. I’m sure everyone is anxious and wants to do more, but there is no need. You don’t even need to worry about making a fuss about the kittens’ arrival, since for the first couple of weeks they’ll be completely dependent on their nursing cat mom for everything.

So, for those who are completely unaware of when their cat got pregnant, if your pregnant cat seems more “lethargic”, as she slows down more, be mentally prepared for the arrival of her newborn kittens.

The nursing cat mom loves the cat tree. She, and her kittens, like all cats, feel safer being up high. She likes to groom them and fall asleep with them at the top. The only male, the tuxedo kitten, Charlie falls asleep hanging from the sides. He also enjoys his favorite game on the cat tree: catch the tail! His less inquisitive and more docile calico kitten litter mate, Puddles, lounges for hours on the cat tree, mostly on her back as she contemplates life. The photos below demonstrate what I just shared with you:
