The kittens are just over two months old now and a joy to watch every minute of the day! They are growing up fast, and their personalities are starting to become more clear than before. The tuxedo kitten, the only male kitten, is outgoing, curious, and daring. The calico kitten is shy, curious, but not as much as her brother, and timid. The dilute tortie is my wild thing. She’s skittish and she clings to her nursing cat mom more than the others. The kittens’ socialization is going overall really well. They are used to the dogs more every day. What amazes me is how much their nursing cat mom is helping with the socialization. In an ideal world, we should all leave the socialization done by the natural mother, but only if she’s as wonderful as ours. The stray cat I recently picked up off the streets, has proven to be the best mama cat in the world. That’s also why, I mostly call her Mama, or Lil’ Mama.
Once again, I changed my mind about the cute kitten names. I’m thinking about calling the calico kitten: Esmeralda. Why? Because I’m nuts and I love a mouthful. Actually, it’s because of her emerald green eyes, even though I know that the the kitten eye color changes past this age. The tortie, my beautiful future tortoiseshell cat, is now called Cassandra, Sandra or Sandy.
Below are the newer kitten socialization pictures:
As you can see, the socialization happens at all levels; through their mom, play, their interaction with one another and even with the dogs through a gate and a sliding glass door.
